Fish Oil Reduces Depression in Middle-Age Women


Fish oil is good for health


A study of 120 women, ages 40 to 55, was undertaken to determine if fish oil1 could help the depression that is commonly associated with menopause and perimenopause.  Over an 8-week period the symptoms of depression significantly improved in the fish oil consuming women, compared to those getting the placebo.

Lead author Dr. Michel Lucas said “The differences we observed between the two groups are noteworthy, especially considering that omega-3s have very few side effects and are beneficial to cardiovascular health.”  Women with hot flashes also noted improvement.

Since omega-3 oils are the most lacking fat in the American food supply, supplementation is needed by virtually everyone for a variety of metabolic, neurologic, and cardiovascular issues.
